Understand the Causes

Fix The Underlying Problems
- All addictions are mainly caused by anxieties that arise from other issues. Addictive behaviors - drinking alcohol or obsessively checking email - provide very short term enjoyment and satisfaction. It is the mind’s (short term) way to deal with a build up of stress. This anxiety build up may be caused by relationship, work, social, financial, or any other sources. Entering the addiction provides a burst of seratonin that can become especially addictive to those who experience such stress on a day-to-day level.
- An addictive approach doesn’t solve any of these problems, and only leaves the individual with less time (and inclination) to face their problems. Similarly, attacking the addiction whilst leaving the causes untreated is also unwise - as the stimulus will keep on acting upon the individual.
- Working with a trained professional - to deal with and resolve these underlying issues - is a much more intelligent way to cope, and will help end the underlying cause of a computer addiction.
- Also, realize that we are trained to think that a reading source - a large book or weekend newspaper for example - can be read, and all of the interesting information taken from it. It’s how we think of the idea of a ‘large’ source of information. But the internet is so massively large, with so many industries and individuals making money producing new things to entertain, distract, and inform us - that we can never read it all, even given many lifetimes. This article explains how we should follow a much more targeted approach than just browsing, given its enormity.
